Blow Molding Scrap Recycling with the M Series Shredder

August 27, 2026     News

Blow molding operations generate a steady stream of flash, trimmings, rejected bottles, drums and other hollow plastic parts. Although much of this scrap still has recycling value, its bulky shape and low bulk density can make storage, handling and size reduction difficult.

For clean HDPE, PP and similar production scrap, an efficient recycling process usually starts with one important step: reducing large, irregular waste into a manageable size.

The Wiscon M Series heavy-duty single-shaft shredder is designed for high-volume size reduction of bulky plastic and industrial waste.

It can be used for materials such as:

  • HDPE blow molded drums and containers
  • Blow molding flash and trimmings
  • Rejected bottles and hollow plastic products
  • Thick-wall plastic parts
  • PP and PE production scrap

Instead of manually cutting large plastic parts before crushing, the M Series uses a hydraulic swing-arm feeding system to continuously push material toward the rotor.

This helps reduce manual handling and provides a more controlled feeding process for bulky or irregular blow molding waste.

Stable Feeding for Irregular Plastic Waste

One of the main challenges with blow molding scrap is that the material is rarely uniform.

A recycling stream may contain lightweight flash, large hollow containers and thick-wall rejected parts at the same time. Feeding all of these materials at a fixed rate can cause bridging, unstable loading or excessive stress on the drive system.

The M Series combines a hydraulic feeding system with a heavy-duty cutting rotor. The feeding movement responds to machine load so that material enters the cutting zone progressively rather than being forced into the rotor all at once.

Depending on the model, material and configuration, processing capacity can reach up to approximately 15 tons per hour.

Actual throughput depends on factors such as material type, wall thickness, bulk density, feed size and required output size.

Maintenance has a direct impact on the real operating cost of a plastic recycling machine.

The M Series features accessible service doors that provide easier access to the shredding chamber, rotor and screen area for inspection and maintenance.

Its curved feeding design also helps bulky and irregular materials move toward the shredding chamber more smoothly.

For blow molding plants operating continuously, easier access can help reduce unnecessary downtime during routine inspection, cleaning and knife maintenance.

From Shredding to Reuse

A single-shaft shredder is primarily used for size reduction and volume reduction. It does not mean that every shredded material can be fed directly back into a blow molding machine.

Where a more consistent regrind size is required, a plastic crusher or granulator can be installed downstream.

A typical in-house recycling process may include:

Blow Molding Scrap → Single-Shaft Shredder → Plastic Crusher → Separation/Conveying → Storage → Reuse

Clean, well-sorted production scrap may then be blended back into production according to material properties and product quality requirements.

If the waste contains labels, metals, dirt, oil or mixed polymers, additional sorting, metal separation or washing may be required.

Turn Blow Molding Scrap Back into a Usable Resource

For a blow molding plant, recycling production scrap is not only about keeping the workshop clean.

A properly designed shredding and recycling system can reduce storage volume, decrease manual cutting, improve material handling and help recover more value from in-house plastic scrap.

The Wiscon M Series single-shaft shredder provides the first step by reducing bulky blow molding waste into a more manageable form for downstream crushing and recycling.
